NWFS Team supporting East Sussex in Positive Action Events

Following the successful positive action events in Ely, Cambridgeshire, the team have just returned from supporting East Sussex in their recruitment programme.

Cheryl Rolph, Assistant Chief Officer, stated that ESFRS had 162 people going through the current selection process and they wanted to offer the candidates an opportunity to sample the fitness tests and be given fitness training advice prior to the actual physical selection tests early in 2010.

The event utilised the Firefighter Selection Unit (FFSU) on loan from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service. Anne Waters stated that the beauty of using the FFSU is that it can be set up almost anywhere, events do not have to be run at a fire station with a drill tower. It is self contained, having everything you need to run all the physical National firefighter selection tests.

The Eastbourne event was held at a community centre. All the candidates, men and women really appreciated the opportunity to have a go at all the selection tests in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

Many of East Sussex's own employees took the opportunity to try out the tests, indeed Gwyneth (ICT) and Vicky (HR)who may now be looking at a change in career! If you would like to find out how NWFS can support your positive action events, please get in touch with anne@awaters.co.uk
